If you're within the first two or three years of an installation and the color already looks noticeably washed out compared to when it went in, that's a conversation worth having with the manufacturer before assuming it's just how the product ages.
Turf-safe colorant treatments can visibly improve faded turf, but they sit on top of the fiber rather than restoring the pigment inside it, so they wear off faster than the original color did. Treat it as a stopgap before a planned replacement, not a permanent fix — and it works best on evenly faded turf, not turf with brittle or patchy fibers.
Unevenly, most of the time. Any area getting more direct sun than the rest — an open sideline, a spot near a reflective fence, a section without tree cover — fades first. Patchy fading is normal and isn't on its own a sign of defective turf.
