Start 4-6 weeks before your first scheduled game or practice, not the week of. That leaves time to order materials, schedule a deep clean, and re-inspect after any fix — starting the week of opening day only leaves room for cosmetic fixes, not structural ones.
Not the fiber itself. The issue is residue — salt and de-icer granules that aren't rinsed off before they dissolve into the infill can cake infill together, which is a compaction problem. A thorough spring rinse and brush handles it.
